Issue 1: BEARING MAINTENANCE Pt. 1
Maintenance depends on the type of enclosures and lubricants your bearings come with. Rubber sealed or Ultra sealed bearings require no maintenance and the lube is good for the life of the bearing. Metal shielded bearings that use either grease or oil should be constantly maintained and frequency level will vary depending on your application. Oil dissipates faster than grease, so typically shielded bearings using oil as lubrication will require constant care.
There are many factors that can contribute to the failure of bearings such as excessive side loads, corrosive chemicals or an improper application. However developing a regular maintenance schedule will substantially add to the life of your bearing. If you are ever unsure about a particular bearings RPM or Load capabilities please review the technical specifications by searching our database.
In our next issue of the Boca Bearings Tips & Advice Newsletter we will outline a typical cleaning regiment.
