Double Row Full Ceramic Bearings

Double Row Full Ceramic Bearings

Double Row Full Ceramic Bearings

Full Ceramic bearings are made entirely of ceramic material and are superior to common steel bearings in many ways. Ceramic is the perfect material for any application seeking to achieve higher RPM's, reduce overall weight or for extremely harsh environments where high temperatures and corrosive substances are present. Applications such as cryopumps, medical devices, semiconductors, machine tools, turbine flow meters, food processing equipment, robotics and optics. Ceramic materials commonly used for bearings are Silicon Nitride (Si3N4), Zirconia Oxide (ZrO2), Alumina Oxide (Al2O3) or Silicon Carbide (SiC.)

Double Row bearings are ideally suited to applications where carrying loads make a single row inadequate. Double Row bearings utilize two rows of balls back to back. They have deep groove raceways with a high degree of contact between the ball and raceways. Double Row bearings are capable of handling both radial and axial loads and are designed for applications where higher load carrying capacity is necessary.

Because ceramic is a glass like surface it has an extremely low coefficient of friction and is ideal for applications seeking to reduce friction. Ceramic balls require less lubricant and have a greater hardness than steel balls which will contribute to increased bearing life. Thermal properties are better than steel balls resulting in less heat generation at high speeds. Boca Bearing Company offers full ceramic double row bearings in miniature and standard sizes.

  • Zirconia Oxide ZrO2 Series

Zirconia Oxide ZRO2 Full Ceramic Double Row Bearings are suitable for applications where corrosion or degradation is of material is an issue and where single row bearings are not able to handle certain loads. Zirconia Oxide is inert to corrosive materials, with the exception of hydrofloric acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Zirconia is lighter than steel, non-magentic and has a maximum useful temperature of 400°C. Zirconia Oxide bearings are often used in food processing applications.

  • Zirconia Races, SI3N4 Balls

The Full Ceramic Double Row Bearing series is suitable for use in many specialty applications Ceramic is the perfect material for any application seeking to achieve higher RPM’s, reduce overall weight or for extremely harsh environments where high temperatures and corrosive substances are present. Applications such as cryopumps, medical devices, semiconductors, machine tools, turbine flow meters, food processing equipment, robotics and optics. The double row bearing is able to withstand greater loads than a standard radial bearing, making these a more robust solution for some applications. These bearings come with Zirconia Dioxide (ZrO2) races and Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) balls. The balls are held in place with a PEEK or PTFE retainer and they are offered sealed or open. The sealed bearing are sealed with either PTFE or PEEK seals.

  • Silicone Nitride Si3N4 Series

Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) Ceramic Double Row Bearings are suitable for applications where high loads, high speeds and extreme temeratures are factors. Long life and the need for minimal lubrication make this material appropriate for extreme applications. Silicon Nitirde is non-porous, non-magentic, non corrosive and lighter than steel. In ball form, ceramic balls are also harder than steel and because ceramic balls are non-porous they are virtually frictionless. and capable of spinning faster than steel balls. Maximum useful temperature of Silicon Nitirde is 1922°F or 1050°C.
