Insert Bearings

Insert bearings and wide inner ring bearings are used for mounting on shafts without the need for shoulders or adapters. The bearing is locked in place through setscrews or a locking collar. UC Style Insert Bearings have an inner ring that extends on both sides of the bearing and SB Style Insert Bearings extend on one side. Both designs however are intended to provide extra shaft support. Sometimes insert bearings are simply standard deep groove radial bearings that fit into a housing and these bearings may be purchased as stand-alone products to use as replacements. While standard radial ball bearings must be pressed into a machined shaft, using special installation tools, insert bearings can be slip fit directly onto the shaft.

The Boca Bearing Company offers a wide assortment of miniature and standard size insert bearings in various combinations of materials. Stainless steel and ceramic hybrid insert bearings are available for washdown conditions, high temperature and food grade applications.

  • S-SB Stainless Steel Series

S-SB Style Stainless Steel Insert Bearings have an inner ring that extends on one side of the bearing to provide extra shaft support. Insert Bearings have stainless steel races with steel balls. Stainless Steel Insert Bearings are available in 440C Stainless Steel. Stainless Steel 440C is resistant to corrosion from fresh water, steam, crude oil, gasoline, perspiration, alcohol, blood and food stuffs. Stainless Steel does contain some carbon so it is still slightly magnetic and may eventually rust.

  • S-SB Stainless Steel Ceramic Hybrid Series

S-SB Style Stainless Steel Ceramic Hybrid Insert Bearings have an inner ring that extends on one side of the bearing to provide extra shaft support. Ceramic Hybrid Insert Bearings have stainless steel races with ceramic balls. Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) Ceramic Balls are suitable for applications where high loads, high speeds and extreme temeratures are factors. Long life and the need for minimal lubrication make this material appropriate for extreme applications. Silicon Nitirde is non-porous, non-magentic, non corrosive and lighter than steel. In ball form, ceramic balls are also harder than steel and because ceramic balls are non-porous they are virtually frictionless. and capable of spinning faster than steel balls.
