Description

A stainless steel, ceramic or plastic bearing can be sterilized by standard methods such as autoclave or Gamma. Some of the materials we are capable of making bearings from that are non-corrosive include Stainless steel 316, Silicon Nitride, Alumina Oxide, Zirconia Oxide, PEEK and titanium. An autoclave is a machine that uses steam under pressure to kill harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores on items that are placed inside a pressure vessel. In order to kill a cell with heat, its temperature must be raised to a degree at which the proteins in the cell wall break down and coagulate.  To be effective, the autoclave must reach and maintain a temperature of 121° C for at least 30 minutes by using saturated steam under at least 15 psi of pressure.
