Following the 2015 International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium, artist Edwin Cheong offered to donate his stainless steel sculpture, “Bloomer Tree” to the City’s Art in Public Places program. The Arts Commission accepted his offer and approved a permanent sculpture location at the Boynton Beach Extension round about. After it was installed in it’s new location near the Boynton Harbor Marina, tropical storm Matthew hit and unfortunately damaged the artwork. The sculptures “tree” portion was bent in half causing the kinetic flowerettes to break free from the structure and incur damage.

The sculpture and its kinetic elements are in repair and plans to relocate it to a protected location along the side of City Hall on Seacrest Blvd. are scheduled for May 4, 2017. The repaired kinetic flowerettes will be reinstalled with new bearings donated by the Boca Bearing Company. Boca Bearings is headquartered in Boynton Beach, Florida and has supported the International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium since its first biennial in 2013.

Bloomer Tree
Flowers have, for the longest time, possessed a magical ability to lift up ones’ spirit and soul. Their bloom, when gathered together, creates a heaven-sent medicine to the soul. An artwork that uplifts the spirit of others would be my greatest satisfaction.

Maintenance: The stainless steel used is marine 316 grade and should not rust. Simply clean with mild detergent and a wet cloth.
